Emilie Dupre is the daughter of a coon-ass fisherman father and an Atakapa Indian mother. She was born in the small fishing village of Hackberry, Louisiana—a town isolated in the swamps of Southwest Louisiana, with a culture that had been preserved based on it’s isolation. Emilie’s mother died in childbirth due to the family’s lack of healthcare, a problem not uncommon to the poor in Hackberry—none of the resident’s were Mammon employees. Emilie and her twin sister Annette grew-up motherless, but fascinated by their mother’s heirlooms and history. They played in the swampy marshes and pretended to be Atakapa warriors—rumored to have been a violent tribe who cannibalized their fallen enemies.
One day when Emilie was 12 years old, she came home to see her father being beaten to death by two Mammon representatives who had come to claim qualifying young females for use by the Corporation. Emilie was frozen while she hid behind the tall grass, watching the men carry Annette back to the transport vehicle that also held several of her playmates. From that day forward Emilie was plagued with guilt over watching her father’s death without taking action, and also for leaving her sister home to be kidnapped without her. She devoted her teenage years to becoming a true Atakapa warrior so that she could give tribute to her mother, while seeking revenge for the death of her Father and the enslavement of her Sister.
At age 23, armed with a throwing dagger that she had acquired by trading her family’s remaining property with the neighbors, she set off to cross the Atchafalaya and get closer to her perceived enemy. In the swamps and rivers she was in her element, and food was abundant. Once she reached New Orleans, though, she became a common thief in order to survive. Sleeping in the abandoned park pavilions and scrounging through dumpsters for food.
One day she was discovered by a large, stuttering man named Lei in the back of Yummy Yummy Chinese food, after gathering up a few scraps of discarded crab rangoon from the dumpster. Lei brought her into the backroom, gave her a plate of warm General Tso’s and a place to sleep. But that night, Emilie got a little greedy and snuck up to the kitchen for a bowl of leftover lo mein. She heard Lei and another man talking about some type of resistance, but honestly, she didn’t pay much attention. Nevertheless, Lei must have thought she was after information more than she was after lo mein, because she was tackled from the back and before she knew it she was tied-up and being interrogated at gunpoint.
To make a long story short, Emilie and the men discovered their common enemy and she gained the trust of the the small group that met frequently in the back rooms of Yummy Yummy. She was welcomed into their circle and became part of an organized resistance against Mammon—a family that Emilie could never have dreamed she’d find in the grungy alleyways of Midcity New Orleans.
At first meeting, she appears cautious and detached.
As you get to know her, she becomes devoted and playful. She is motivated and encourages others to take action.
She has a soft-spot for Animoids and Devils, and will defend them even if it is counterproductive to the Mission.
If provoked or offended, she can become wildly emotional and violent. Basically, she’s a nice girl with some serious emotional issues.
